Happening This Week

Red Line construction acceleration has begun. Over the next four months, additional construction crews along the entire 13-mile length of the Red Line will be working simultaneously to finish by the end of summer. Impacts of the acceleration include evening work, weekend work, occasional overnight work, and lane shifts, and parking restrictions between 38th and 66th along College Avenue.

College Avenue:

  • 51st Street will be closed immediately adjacent to College Ave (both east and west) on Monday Feb 18th for up to four hours (each side). This closure is necessary to upgrade drainage infrastructure.
  • A section of 52nd Street will be closed just west of College Ave for up to four days beginning on or after Wednesday Feb 20th. All businesses on 52nd Street will be accessible during the closure. The closure is necessary to upgrade drainage infrastructure, curbs, and sidewalk.

More information and a list of FAQ’s about the acceleration is posted on the IndyGo website:  https://www.indygored.com/acceleration/

Continued Construction

Virginia Avenue:

  • Virginia Avenue is currently closed for approximately one block north of Merrill Street to facilitate station construction. Access to all businesses, residences, and other properties will always be maintained. The Cultural Trail will remain open through construction. This segment of roadway will open again before the end of March. Please refer to www.indygored.com/virginia for more information.
  • As construction crews continue progress on station foundations, drivers should continue to expect lane shifts. Station foundation work will continue at the Woodlawn and New Jersey Street stations. Parking spaces will be restricted immediately adjacent to the station areas during this period.

Capitol Avenue:

  • Traffic lane and parking restrictions continue on Capitol Avenue from 19th to Washington Street through spring 2019. Two southbound travel lanes will remain open. Parking will be restricted on one side of Capitol during construction work, and the bike lane will be closed. All driveways, entrances, and parking lots will be accessible on both the east and west sides of Capitol.
  • Travelers should expect on-street parking restrictions adjacent to work zones. For the safety of our workers and drivers, please comply with no parking signage.

Meridian Street:

  • Between 18th and 38th Street, drivers should continue to expect traffic pattern shifts as crews continue work on Meridian Street stations. Vehicle travel will continue to be restricted to one lane in each direction. The travel lane restrictions also reduce parking and left turns in some portions of the construction area.

College Avenue:

  • Crews continue water and gas utility relocations on College Avenue. Work at each location is expected to take approximately 14 days. Shut offs will be necessary to facilitate these relocations. Property owners will be notified in advance by the utility if their service will be affected.
  • Red Line stormwater, curb, signal, and sidewalk work has begun on College Avenue. Flashing arrow boards, construction barrels, flaggers, and/or traffic officers are being used to shift traffic around work areas. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
  • Foundation work has started at the 66th Street station. Travelers should expect traffic pattern shifts at this location.

18th Street Restriction:

  • 18th Street is closed between Capitol Avenue and Meridian Street to accommodate roadway, sidewalk, and curb improvements.
Coming Soon

Shelby Street:

  • Drivers will notice lane shifts on Shelby St. at East Pleasant Run Parkway North Dr. as construction crews work on stations. No change to turning movements or travel patterns.
  • Crews will begin asphalt patching on or after Feb 18 between Hanna Ave and Virginia Ave.

Meridian Street:

  • Construction activities will be moving to the east side of Meridian Street on or after March 4th.  Drivers should expect lane shifts. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction along the west side of Meridian Street during this phase of construction. Asphalt patching will also begin on or after March 4th between 18th and 38th Streets.

College Avenue

  • Travelers should expect on-street parking restrictions in all work zones (marked by orange barrels / barricades), although parking restrictions will be lifted outside of active work areas this week.  Please comply with all signage regarding on-street parking. Parking will be permitted along College outside of construction areas, unless otherwise signed.
  • Parking meters along College Ave, in the vicinity of Broad Ripple Avenue will be restricted for approximately 3 weeks beginning on or after March 25th.
  • Work south of 50th Street to 38th Street will begin in early March.
